Blanchards Flat Elk Herd

(32 Minutes / 17.1 mile loop).  From Highway 299 and Steiner Flat Road, head east on Highway 299 about .2 miles and make a sharp right onto Highway 3 towards Hayfork.  Turn left in .9 miles on Reading Creek Road.  In 3.9 miles you'll veer to the right to stay on Reading Creek, and travel another .2 miles to Blanchards Flat where you'll turn right.  Drive 1.5 miles until you get to Deerlick Springs Road.  Turn right on Deerlick Springs Road and drive 1.6 miles until you get back to Highway 3.  Turn right to return to Douglas City.  The elk herd is mostly seen in the early morning hours along the Blanchard Flat area.  Please use caution when near the elk as they are wild animals and can be unpredictable when approached.
